SON’S IMPRESSIVE CITY RECORD REVEALED

South Korea national team star Son Heung-Min has a very good record against Premier League holders Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur would be counting on him when they take on the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium later this weekend. Manchester City will play hosts to Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League encounter billed for the Etihad Stadium with both teams needing the three points on offer for various reasons.

Premier League leaders Manchester City are in a direct battle with Liverpool for the title this season, while Tottenham Hotspur are in the battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League with several teams. Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Wolves, West Ham United and Manchester United are all fighting for a place in the top-four to guarantee Champions League football next season.

South Korea international Son Heung-Min is one of the top two players at Tottenham Hotspur and his teammates would be counting on him to hurt City again just like he has always done in the past as recent as the opening weekend of this season. The South Korea player scored the only goal of the game to give Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 home win over Manchester City in the corresponding fixture played during the first week of the season. City would be hoping to avenge that defeat and also extend their lead over nearest challengers Liverpool to 12 points with a win at home to Spurs.

Son has a very good record against Manchester City in terms of results as he has recorded seven wins from 14 games against them. He has seven goals and one assist in those matches with five of the contributions coming in 11 games. He’s presently the leading goalscorer in the Premier League this season at Spurs with nine goals to his name ahead of the City game.

SON OUT OF LEICESTER CITY CLASH

South Korea international Son Heung-Min will miss the Premier League clash at Leicester City on Thursday night after testing positive for Covid-19 last week. The South Korea football star is one of several Spurs players who will miss the game against the Foxes due to the aforementioned virus.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has had to deal with a Coronavirus outbreak at their training ground which prompted the closing down of the training ground for a few days. Spurs have had two games postponed due to the outbreak at their training ground. The matches against Rennes and Brighton & Hove Albion in the UEFA European Conference League and Premier League respectively were called off due to the outbreak.

Apart from South Korea attacker Son Heung-Min, other players that will also miss the Leicester City game due to Covid-19 include English midfielder Oliver Skipp, young striker Dane Scarlett and Brazilian national team player Lucas Moura. Spanish winger Bryan Gil and Brazilian fullback Emerson Royal have also had Covid-19 over the last one week, but they could feature in the team for the Leicester City game.

Leicester City are in a good place ahead of the Spurs game after the big win over Newcastle United who are in the bottom three places on the Premier League log. The Magpies are second from bottom with ten points from their 16 games and they are three points off safety on the league table. Newcastle United were on the receiving end of a 4-0 loss to Leicester City as they capitulated defensively in the second half of the game. The goalscorers for the Foxes were Youri Tielemans (two goals), James Maddison and Patson Daka. The league win over Newcastle United came on the back of the 2-1 league defeat at Aston Villa and their demotion from Europa League football to UEFA European Conference League football.

SON MAKES PREMIER LEAGUE BEST XI

South Korea national team talisman Son Heung-Min has been named as one of the best players during the latest Premier League season. The Tottenham Hotspur attacker made the best Premier League XI for this season as revealed by the Premier League body earlier this week.

The South Korea player was named in a three-man attack alongside Tottenham Hotspur teammate Harry Kane and Liverpool player Mohamed Salah.

South Korea international Son had his best season in the Premier League for Spurs netting 17 goals to finish as one of the highest goalscorersin the competition this season. Salah and Kane fought for the Golden Boot Award till the last date before the latter emerged victorious with 23 goals. The two players went into the final day of the campaign with 22 goals apiece. Kane added another one to take the Golden Boot Award in the 4-2 away win over Leicester City, while Salah could only provide an assist in the 2-0 home victory over Crystal Palace. Egyptian international Salah finished the season with 22 goals.

In addition to winning the Golden Boot Award, Kane also won the Best Playmaker Award with 14 assists.

In midfield, Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes and the Manchester City duo of IlkayGundogan and Kevin De Bruyne were the three players selected.

The defence was dominated by Manchester City players as they finished the season with the best defensive record. Manchester City shot stopper EdersonMoraes was selected in goal, while the Manchester City trio of Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and John Stones joined Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw in defence.

In total, six Manchester City players made the best XI as the Citizens beat all-comers to win the Premier League title for the third time in four years under the watchful eyes of Spanish tactician Pep Guardiola.

SON MAKES SCORING RETURN

South Korea national team skipper Son Heung-Min made a scoring return to the Tottenham Hotspur starting line-up last weekend but his goal could not save his team from losing to Manchester United in a Premier League encounter played at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The South Korea attacker sustained an hamstring problem in the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal in the North London Derby last month and he didn’t return until after the recent international break.

Son Heung-Min had to go off early during the North London Derby because of the injury. His replacement Erik Lamela scored a world class goal in the first half to give their team the lead at the Emirates Stadium before hosts Arsenal roared back with two goals from Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette (penalty) to win the game. The goals came either side of the interval with Lacazette netting the winning goal from the penalty spot in the second half.

South Korea attacker Son Heung-Min returned from the hamstring problem in the away game at relegation threatened Newcastle United. He came on in the second half with the scoreline at 2-1 in favour of his team but Spurs could not hold on for the three points after Arsenal loanee Joe Willock came off the bench to score the equaliser for hosts Newcastle United. English midfielder Willock is on loan at the Magpies from North London rivals Arsenal.

Son scored in the first half of Spurs’ game with Manchester United shortly after he had been involved with a disallowed Manchester United goal .His goal gave Spurs a 1-0 lead at the interval but visitors Manchester United came back in the second half to score three goals through Brazilian international Fred, EdinsonCavani and Mason Greenwood. Young England striker Greenwood came off the bench to score the third goal in added time and win the game for the Red Devils.

With the defeat, Spurs failed to take the chance of moving into the top six on the league table and within three points of the Champions League places. On their part, Manchester United consolidated second place and also moved to within 11 points of leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.

Son Heung-Min Keen To Feature For South Korea At The Asian Game

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has reportedly expressed his eagerness to represent South Korea at the Asian games this year in order to bypass the country’s military service. All able-bodied South Korean males have to compulsorily serve the military for a period of 21 months but they can get an exemption from this by winning a gold medal at either the Olympic or the Asian games.

As such, the 25-year-old is keen to ply his trade for the South Korea Under 23s this summer and their coach Kim Hak-bum has confirmed the player’s interest, he said: “Son has a strong will to compete at the Asian Games. But first, there’s the World Cup. I told Son to play well in Russia before we meet at the Asian Games.”

Son has had another top season with Tottenham Hotspur where he is on course to achieve a 20-goal tally and the club’s hierarchy would be wise to lose his services for the start of next season in order to allow his participation at the Asian games. South Korea are undoubtedly the favourites to win the competition in Indonesia but they could do with an experienced head in Son in order to avoid any blemishes.

Nevertheless, Spurs may have to rethink their transfer strategy for the summer, considering Son may not play a big role during the first half of the season. Fernando Llorente is currently the third pick to act as deputy to Harry Kane and it will be interesting to see whether the club are interested in pursuing a new marksman during the summer.

Despite the progress in recent seasons, Spurs have come short of the trophy which resembles a form of success and next term could be a make or break for them. The long-term futures of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Christian Eriksen among others may hinge on whether they can break a 10-year trophy drought next season.

Son Heung-Min Disappointed With Champions League Exit

South Korea international Son Heung-Min expressed his disappointment after Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out of this season’s Champions League. The north London club had been in a solid position to qualify for the quarter-final stage after they put in a solid performance in the first-leg of their round of 16 tie at Juventus – which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Son enhanced the club’s chances further by netting the opener during the second-leg, but this was not sufficient as Juventus came from behind to pick up a 2-1 victory. The triumph ensured that the Bianconeri progressed with a 4-3 aggregate scoreline, and Son has admitted that there is a sense of unhappiness within the squad.

He said: “That hurt, but it’s football. We played well but sometimes football is like this. We have to accept the result but still for me, it hurts a lot. What was the difference? Nothing. At the start we played well, we created lots of chances, got to 1-0 and made the perfect start I think. This game we can learn something from, but this is sad news. The dressing room was a bit quiet.”

Tottenham have possessed one of the best defences across Europe this term, but a period of three minutes in the second half ultimately cost them the chance to extend their Champions League run. The defeat is likely to have a dampening effect on the morale in the team, but Pochettino has the task of getting the side together for their Premier League outing this weekend.
The north London side are very much in the running to qualify for next season’s Champions League via their league phase, and they need to keep their recent good form going at Bournemouth. Spurs currently have a slender two-point lead over Chelsea with a game in hand, and they need to retain their focus in order to maintain their fourth position ahead of their city rivals.
